The Coorgs’ fondness for good food is legendary. Go to their festivals and their weddings to see them enjoy their food while they regale themselves with their dance and song. As in any cuisine, Coorg food is influenced by the geography (hills and forests), history and culture of its people.
Pandhi Curry
The Kodava people love their pork and the delicious pandhi curry will leave you wanting more. Served with akki roti (rice roti) or kadambuttu (rice dumplings), the pork curry is cooked on all special occasions. Special spices in Coorg like Malabar Tamarind (Kachampuli), Pepper, Cardamom, Bird’s Eye Chilli are included in the recipe which adds to the delicacy of the Kodava pork curry.
Kadumbuttu
Also known as steamed rice dumpling, Kadumbuttu is a popular food in Coorg. It is mostly served with pandhi curry or chicken curry and is prepared on all major occasions in Coorg.
Akki Rotti
Akki rotti is a rice-based breakfast item unique to the state of Karnataka, India but extremely popular. Akki rotti means "rice bread" in the native language.
Idiyappam / Nool Puttu
Nool Puttu / Rice Noodles is a famous south indian dish which serves as breakfast or dinner along with some curries or milk. This is steam cooked , so considered a healthy food with proper combination of side dish like vegetable stew or coconut milk.
